Mapogalmaegi (Pantai Indah Kapuk, Jakarta)

Mapogalmaegi

(Calling out all pork lovers in Jakarta!)

Say hello to Mapogalmaegi, a Korean BBQ restaurant originated from Korea has finally opened their first outlet in Indonesia! Their first outlet is located at Pantai Indah Kapuk, a famous dining spot in North Jakarta. The restaurant is not really hard to find, it is located near the famous dessert shop Shirokuma, I bet you won't have any difficulties in finding this restaurant.

The restaurant is not really big but it is spacey enough, I reckon they can accommodate up to 50 people. Each table is equipped with grill and you can choose whether you want the meat to be grilled in your table or not. Of course we opted the meat to be grilled in our table (in order to take good pictures of sizzling meat!), even though it was quite hot because of the grill. It just doesn't feel right if you go to Korean BBQ restaurant and had your meat grilled somewhere else, don't you think so?

There were various banchan (Korean side-dishes) and sauces served on the table and most of them tasted pretty delicious. I personally had a crush on their gochujang sauce, it was not too spicy and made a great pairing for the meat. Oh, and can you see outer ring on the grill? It is used to make a super delicious kimchi omelette. (what a unique way to make omelette, huh?)

We ordered four kinds of meat which are Mapokalsamgyeopsal (Mapo Pork Belly), Mapojumeokgogi (Special Pork Collar), Hanjungsal (Jowls Skinless) and Mapodaejigalbi (Mapo Marinated Prime Short Rib) and all of them were super delicious!

I'm not a big fan of pork belly because it had so much fat, but I have to say that this one was pretty good. The meat was tender, chewy and flavorful!

This one was grilled last and it was my favorite that day! The ribs meat was super tender, soft and nicely marinated. It was rich in flavor and it tasted amazing even without any dipping sauce. Oh, I'm craving for this meat now!

The hanjungsal tasted pretty decent as well, it was a bit hard to differentiate the taste of  this meat with samgyeopsal, but both of them was delicious!

Honestly, it was my first time trying pork collar meat, and it was a delightful first experience, because it was delicious!

Japchae (IDR 89.8k)

The Japchae they served here tasted pretty delicious and they were pretty generous in giving huge amount of meat. The meat was nicely marinated and the japchae was chewy and flavorful.

I didn't get to try this one, but I love the reddish color of this tteokboki and it had a great smell as well. Oh, and I could notice they were pretty generous in giving huge amount of odeng! (fish cake)

Overall, I really enjoyed my visit to Mapogalmaegi, the food they served tasted super delicious especially the meat, service was quick and great, and the place was nice. I don't think many people have known about this amazing restaurant considering the place is not really crowded even it was weekend. Seriously, this restaurant is like a hidden gem and I recommend all of you to try their Korean food, because it was so good!
