Ramen Orenchi (Mangga Besar, Jakarta)

Ramen Orenchi

(Welcome May!)

Ramen Orenchi is a restaurant that served authentic Japanese Ramen located at Mangga Besar, one of the most well-known places to have night snack. (did you know that the famous Bakso Akiaw and Kwetiaw Akang located in this neighborhood?) The chef is a Japanese who own several restaurants in Japan, so you can expect to have authentic Japanese food here.

The place is a bit hard to find, here are some tips, if you come from Hayam Wuruk street, turn left to Mangga Besar Raya street and it is located at the left side. For more detailed information, you can check the map at the end of this post!

The restaurant is not really big although it is spacious enough, I reckon they can accommodate up to 40 people. I love the idea to put the side board to separate one table to another to give more privacy for the customers (you could slurp your ramen as crazy as you want, lol!) The place could get a little bit crowded during peak hours and I have been told that most of them are Japanese people who live in Indonesia, who are willing to travel a long way for their ramen (amazing!)

Let's get started with their food!

Chicken Katsu Salad (IDR 38k)
Chicken Katsu Salad

Chicken Katsu Salad consists of mixed vegetables served along with breaded chicken cutlet and special dressing sauce. I have never been a fan of vegetables but I have to say that this one was unexpectedly delicious! The dressing was made from mayonnaise mixed with nuts and several ingredient and it made a great pairing for the salad. (bravo!)

Chashu Aburi (IDR 42k)
Chashu Aburi

Chashu Aburi is flavorful slices of char siu drenched with special sauce. It is mostly ordered as side-dishes, in case you want more char siu for your ramen. It tasted pretty delicious as the pork belly was thinly sliced and flavorful. It was quite salty even though it wasn't a problem for me (because I love salty food!), and it tasted best when you mix it with ramen broth!

Shio Tonkotsu Ramen (IDR 58k)
Shio Tonkotsu Ramen

Shio Tonkotsu Ramen consists of thick or thin noodles, char siu, scallions, and bamboo shoot served in salt tonkotsu base soup with garlic flavor. One of the good thing of their ramen is the noodles, it was springy and the texture was just perfect, you can choose whether you want thick or thin noodles. Apparently, they made their own noodle everyday to keep it fresh and delicious. Overall, it tasted pretty delicious and I bet if you love salty food, you will love the Shio Tonkotsu Ramen as well!

Tan Tan Men (IDR 62k)
Tan Tan Men

Tan Tan Men consists of  thick or thin noodle, minced pork meat and vegetables served in thick spicy sesame base soup. It tasted super duper heavenly delicious, the minced pork meat was tender, soft and flavorful while the broth was strong and spicy in a good way. I literally couldn't stop slurping this ramen. This one was my favorite and I would love to come back for another serving of Tan Tan Men!

Orenchi Ramen (IDR 58k)
Orenchi Ramen

Orenchi Ramen consists of thick or thin noodle, char siu, soft-boiled egg, scallions served in spicy base soup. This one has lighter broth than the Tan Tan Men, so if you prefer lighter broth than thicker broth, this might be a perfect choice for you.. It tasted pretty decent as I love the consistency of their springy noodle although I still can't move on from the Tan Tan Men! (lol!)

Soft-Boiled Egg

Overall, I had a great lunch at Ramen Orenchi, the food was delicious, the place is good and the service was quick and great. Honestly, I didn't expect that I would find this kind authentic Japanese ramen in Mangga Besar area at first. It is quite unfortunate that they are a little bit underrated with tons of new ramen restaurant in Jakarta even though they served good food. But hey, I really suggest you to give it a try if you happen to go to this area and let me know if you have the same thought about their food.

Thanks for having me and I wish best of luck for Ramen Orenchi!
