Hong Kong Cafe (Menteng, Jakarta)

Mango Kiwi Shaved Ice

Last weekend, I have got a chance to attend "In Style•Hong Kong" blogger gathering which was held at Hong Kong Cafe. "In Style•Hong Kong" is a large-scale promotional campaign organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) to highlight lifestyles and creativity of Hong Kong. The main event will be held at Hotel Indonesia Kempinski on 17 September 2015, so  be sure to mark your calendar!

Baked Rice

The blogger gathering event was attended by fellow food bloggers and the purpose of the event is to give sneak peak about some menu that will be served during the main event and some of special menu made by celebrity chef Walter Kei from Hong Kong which will be available in all Hong Kong Cafe outlet(s) for limited amount of time. We also got the chance to create one of the signature menu by chef Walter Kei namely Banana Brulee!

Banana Brulee

Banana Brulee consists of glutinous rice balls filled with peanut paste, caramelized banana and topped with almond, chocolate and peanut. It tasted pretty delicious especially because it was made by ourselves, (lol!) the glutinous rice balls was chewy and delicious and the caramelized banana was just perfect with thin layer of crispy caramel!

Beef Rolls with Vegetables
Beef Rolls with Vegetables

Beef Rolls with Vegetables is various vegetables such as carrot, cucumber and enoki mushroom wrapped with thinly-sliced marinated beef. It tasted pretty unique as it had good combination of sweet and savory flavor. The combination of the veggies also managed to give fresh and healthy sensation to the whole dish!

Steamed Prawn Dumpling
Steamed Prawn Dumpling

Steamed Prawn Dumpling (also known as "Ha Kau") is popular Chinese dimsum and I bet most of you have ever tried this one. The filling consists of steamed prawn, it tasted pretty fresh and delicious although I would love it more if the seasoning was stronger. Nevertheless, this one just can't go wrong especially for people who love Chinese food!

Fried Chicken Orange Sauce
Fried Chicken Orange Sauce

Fried Chicken Orange Sauce consists of battered chicken thighs drenched with orange sauce. I'm not a big fan of orange sauce because I ever ate something bad with orange sauce, but this one tasted surprisingly delicious! The orange sauce was perfect as it was not too sweet yet not too tangy as well. It went well with the fried chicken as it gave fresh and intriguing taste to the whole dish. I guess I have to change my mindset about orange sauce from now on (lol!)

HK Crispy Fried Carrot Cake

To be honest, I thought that this one was fried tofu at first but it turned out to be fried carrot cake. The carrot cake was fried and made into a shape of dice topped with crispy spices. The fried carrot cake had a good texture, it was chewy, flavorful and delicious.

Overall, I had a great dinner at Hong Kong Cafe, the food tasted pretty delicious (especially the Fried Chicken with Orange Sauce), the service was okay and the place is good. It is such an honor for me to be able to taste food made by chef Walter Kei and I couldn't wait for the main event which is "In Style•Hong Kong Gala Dinner" on 17 September 2015. Last but not least, I wish best of luck for Hong Kong Cafe and HKTDC!
