Bakmi MB8 (Mangga Besar, Jakarta)

Bakmi MB8

Bakmi MB8 is a Chinese restaurant that served Makassar-style noodle and other specialty cuisine. The restaurant was established in 1985, so that makes them 31 years old this year. (wow!) If you have ever visited their restaurant before, you might notice that they just revamped their restaurant to be more modern and comfortable. The restaurant is located right across the Royal Regal Hotel at Mangga Besar VIII street.

The restaurant is not really big, I reckon they can accommodate up to 30 people in total. The interior was mostly dominated with red color which reflects the typical Chinese restaurant. Apparently, the restaurant used to be the typical old-style Chinese restaurant with no air conditioner and open space, but now, it has been equipped with modern-style decoration and air conditioner.

Let's get started with their food!

Bakmi Pangsit MB8 (IDR 32k)
Bakmi Pangsit MB8

Bakmi Pangsit MB8 is basically thick noodle served along with chicken meat, marinated pork, fried wonton and veggies. I have never tried this kind of noodle before and I could say that this one definitely suits my taste bud. The noodle was springy and the marinated pork was tender and flavorful.

Mie Goreng Makassar (IDR 34k)
Mie Goreng Makassar

Mie Goreng Makassar was served along with marinated pork, chicken meat, veggies drenched with thick gravy unlike the typical fried noodle. It tasted pretty new and unique for my taste bud as it was a little bit sour and tangy.

Nasi Goreng Makassar (IDR 34k)
Nasi Goreng Makassar

Nasi Goreng Makassar is literally red fried rice with meats. It tasted surprisingly delicious with a good amount of saltiness and sweetness. The portion was really big as well with generous amount of meats.

Es Pisang Ijo (IDR 23k)
Es Pisang Ijo

Es Pisang Ijo is one of the specialty dessert from Bakmi MB8 which consists of shaved ice, red bean, and banana coated with green dough drenched with condensed milk and syrup. The "pisang ijo" was pretty thick and it tasted pretty refreshing and delicious!

Saparella (IDR 15k)

Saparella is basically carbonated drink similar to "Badak", but this one has mild amount of flavor compared to "Badak". It tasted pretty refreshing and not to mention that the bottle was really cute and unique!

Overall, I had a good brunch at Bakmi MB8, the food tasted pretty unique and delicious, the service was good and the place is nice. I could see that they already had a lot of recurring customers which came to eat their authentic Makassar cuisine. Price wise, I do think that it was pretty reasonable considering the amount of meat. I wish best of luck for Bakmi MB8 and thanks for having me!
