Madagaskar (Plaza Senayan, Jakarta)

by 10:41:00 AM

Madagaskar is a brand new restaurant with jungle concept located at Plaza Senayan. (it's located in secluded area at the 5th floor near Applebee). I have to say that they did a great job in decorating the whole place, I bet you will definitely feel like you're entering an actual jungle when you enter this place. They also sell several safari themed merchandise near the entrance of the restaurant, so you could shop after or before you eat your lunch or dinner here!

The restaurant itself is super huge with dining area on the first floor and second floor, I bet they could accommodate more than 100 people. There's also a bar section available on the first floor with those super cute animal shaped chair. You could spot several animals decoration here and there and some of them could even move, I was startled when I saw that there is a big monkey head on the wall near where I sat (lol!)

Let's get started with their food!

Mollusca Mozzarella Sticks (IDR 68k)
Mollusca Mozzarella Stick

Mollusca Mozzarella Stick is basically deep fried mozzarella cheese coated with bread crumbs, it tasted pretty good although I bet it will be better if the cheese was melted and gooey inside because I found the one in my plate was a little bit sticky.

Sweet Ostrict BBQ Fries (IDR 48k)
Brown Oryx Fries

Sweet Ostrict BBQ Fries is basically french fries topped with chikcen mushroom and smoky BBQ sauce. I know I'm a such trash for fries, but I have to say that this fries was so good that I could even finish 2 or more plates by myself!

Yellow Jungle Fowl Tacquitos (IDR 55k)
Yellow Jungle Fowl Tacquitos

Yellow Jungle Fowl Tacquitos is basically a taco filled with minced meat and topped with guacamole and mayonnaise sauce. This one tasted pretty decent with a hint of avocado flavor although I found it was a little bit too bland for my liking.

The Peacock Tandoori (IDR 88k)
The Peacock Tandoori

The Peacock Tandoori is marinated chicken skewers with tandoori spice served on a bed of basmati rice. The chicken skewers tasted super good as it was super fragrant and had a tad bid of salty taste, some of you might find this too salty, but nevertheless it was good!

Short Rib Black Soup (IDR 140k)
Short Rib Black Soup

The Short Rib Black Soup is definitely not my cup of tea because I don't really like looking at those huge bones when I eat something. (except pork ribs, lol!) I tried some of the meat and I find the meat was quite tough and hard to be eaten.

Overall, I had a good lunch at Madagaskar, I have to be honest and said that their food was not outstandingly delicious, some of them were just so-so although some of them were good as well. Nevertheless, it's a good place to experience jungle themed restaurant as I don't recall that there is any other themed restaurant like this in Jakarta. Last but not least, best of luck for Madagaskar and thanks to Nibble for inviting me!

Sunday Brunch at Rasa (AYANA Midplaza, Jakarta)

by 8:48:00 AM

Rasa Restaurant is one of the hotel buffet restaurant(s) located at AYANA Jakarta (formerly known as InterContinental Jakarta). If I've ever talked about the Ramadan special dinner, (you can read it here) now I'm going to share about my recent experience indulging in Singaporean Food Festival Sunday Brunch at Rasa Restaurant!

The restaurant did give a different vibe for Sunday Brunch as it is brighter and more family-friendly with those beautiful view of the pool. The natural lighting from the outdoor area was pretty great and refreshing as well although the weather was a little bit hot during my visit. The Sunday Brunch was priced at IDR 388k nett per person which is a great deal!

Let's get started with their food!

Singapore Laksa

The Singaporean Food Festival was held on 2 - 15 August 2017 by inviting Chefs from Singapore, so you could expect authentic flavor of Singaporean food. In case you don't want to miss any special deals for the dining, you can check their website here. The Singapore Laksa tasted perfect with a hint of tangy and spicy flavor with perfect thick broth.

Chili Crab

The Chili Crab was served along with fried mantou and it tasted super delicious and I always love the chili crab sauce even though I'm not a big fan of seafood itself. Be prepared as your hand might get a little bit messy and dirty when eating this Chili Crab (lol!)

I did try bunch of other menus available during my Sunday Brunch experience and I have to say that nothings disappoint me, I personally love the super unique tacos with oxtail meat and green chili sauce which surprisingly complements each other well. The seafood served was pretty fresh and there are dimsum sections as well if you prefer to have Chinese-style brunch.

One thing that should never be missed if you visit Rasa Restaurant is to try their famous dessert which was pretty and amazing. (kudos to the pastry chef!) Seriously, I could say that their dessert was on the whole another level and I'd even come here only for their dessert (yes, it's that good!)

As a dessert-person myself, I'd recommend you to try all of their dessert but if I have to recommend one, you have to try the famous egg in the nest looking chocolate dessert. Trust me, it tasted divine and you will be longing for it once you tried it!

Overall, I enjoyed my Sunday Brunch experience at Rasa Restaurant, their food tasted great (and the dessert was amazing!), the service was great and the place is nice. I'd highly recommend this place for family, lovers or friends who would like to indulge in Sunday Brunch experience because they offer pretty good deal with reasonable price. Last but not least, thanks for having me and best of luck for Rasa Restaurant!

Fat Shogun (Kuningan, Jakarta)

by 7:10:00 PM

Fat Shogun is a restaurant that specialized in serving fusion Japanese-Peruvian cuisine located at Menara BTPN in Mega Kuningan area. As Indonesia will be celebrating independence day soon, Fat Shogun will join the festive by launching special Independence Day Set which will only be available on 16-17 August 2017. To get into the restaurant, find the lift located near the lobby (it's outside the building though) and go up to "R" or Rooftop floor.

I personally love the interior and decoration of the restaurant as it looked like a mixture between modern eatery with a traditional Japanese touch. They also have an outdoor smoking area which has a quite good view and keep in mind that the whole restaurant will turn into smoking area after 9 PM. The Independence Set menu is priced at IDR 400k/pax and consists of:
  • Ceviche with Acar Dressing (Appetizer)
  • Red White Tiradito (Appetizer)
  • Chicken Roll & Cod Misoyaki (Main Course)
  • Yuccamochi (Dessert)

Oh, and if you RSVP before 15 August 2017, you will get special price of IDR 375k/pax!

Let's get started with their food!

Ceviche with Acar Dressing
Ceviche with Acar Dressing

Ceviche with Acar Dressing is sliced snapper, red onion, tomatoes mixed with traditional acar dressing. This one tasted pretty sour and tangy from the acar dressing, definitely a good one to have as starter.

Red White Tiradito
Red White Tiradito

Red White Tiradito is sliced sea bass and tuna with mango ginger salad sauce. Kudos for the idea to include the signature Indonesian flag color in the food! It tasted pretty delicious and the mango ginger salad sauce had a pretty strong aroma and flavor.

Red White Tiradito

Chicken Roll & Cod Misoyaki
Chicken Roll

Chicken Roll & Cod Misoyaki is a combination of chicken rolled with rice and char boiled cod with misoyaki sauce served along with seasonal bunch of veggies. It made a perfect combination as you can taste the delicious and tender chicken along with the moist cod fish. Everything in the plate was perfectly complementing each other and I really love this one!

Cod Misoyaki

Yuccamochi is cassava cake served with coconut pearl ice cream, I've never imagined that cassava could be this great and tasty and I bet you wouldn't even realized that the whole cake was made from cassava. It has an interesting texture and tasted pretty sweet and nice.

by 9:31:00 AM

Rosso is one of the restaurants located at Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta which specialised in serving authentic Italian Food. (You might want to check my review for another restaurant at Shangri-La Hotel here: Satoo and Jia). They currently have Sunday Brunch promotion which is available every Sunday from 11.30 to 14.30 with various selection from buffet, special a la carte menu, dessert and wine, prosecco or beer!

The interior itself was pretty mesmerizing with modern touch and eye-catching red chair. I really like how the restaurant was exposed to the natural lighting which makes it brighter for taking photos. Their Sunday Brunch package comes in 3 selection as follow:

Dessert Corner

The Dessert Corner has many selections of dessert starting from cream caramel panacotta, macaroon, pie, cakes, mousse, praline and cupcakes. If I had to name of the best dessert that I've had here, I have to say that it's their Raspberry Mousse which was pretty refreshing with a hint of sourness from the raspberry.

Chocolate Caramel Cake
Cream Caramel

Aside the dessert corner, they also had the so-called Gelato Corner with many selections for the flavor such as vanilla, chocolate, green tea, strawberry, mango and raisins. Their strawberry and mango one was super great and I love the texture as they include the fruits itself inside the gelato! Oh and you can choose whether you want to have the gelato in a cone, a plate, a bowl, or anything you like. (lol!)

Gelato Corner

Another thing to note is the Crispy Pork because it tasted heavenly delicious with those perfect crispness. It tasted similar with Balinese suckling pig which was great. Don't forget to try their signature saffron sauce because it goes so well with the crispy pork!

Crispy Pork

Aside all the buffet menu that I've talked above, they also had several selections of a la carte menu which I managed to try. I personally recommend you to try their Filetto di Manzo (Beef Tenderloin and Foie Gras) and Filetto Di Cernia (Grouper Fish Fillet in Mediterranean Tomato Sauce) because it tasted super great and you wouldn't want to miss this in your Sunday Brunch experience, right?

Agnolotti Di Bufala E Pesto
